Southern Dominates Ecclesia 115–51 in Home Opener

BATON ROUGE, La. — The Southern University Jaguars (1-2) secured their first win of the season in emphatic fashion, cruising past Ecclesia College (0-1) with a commanding 115–51 victory on Monday morning at the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

The Jaguars set the tone early, racing to a 55–19 halftime lead behind efficient shooting and aggressive defense. Southern shot an impressive 57.9% from the field (44-76), including 36% from three-point range (9-25), while forcing 35 Ecclesia turnovers that led to 48 points off turnovers.

Malek Abdelgowad paced Southern with 19 points and 9 rebounds, while Michael Jacobs added 17 points, shooting 7-for-9 from the floor. Fazl Oshodi finished with 16 points off the bench, DaMariee Jones contributed 15 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Rondae Hill chipped in 13 points and six assist both a season high.  Ashton Magee finished with 11 points off the bench as 11 different Jaguars scored. Cam Amboree finished with a career high 12 assist and nine points.

Southern's depth was on full display, as the bench poured in 42 points, and the team dominated the glass with a 42–23 rebounding advantage. The Jaguars also controlled the paint with 60 points inside, compared to just 26 for the Royals.
For Ecclesia, Adrian Nelson led the way with 11 points, while Nate Haugile added 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Southern will be back in action Saturday night after the home football game as they host Champion Christian at 6:30 pm inside the F.G. Clark Activity Center. Admission is free with a football game ticket or small donation to student athlete development at the door.
