BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southern University volleyball team hits the road this weekend for a pivotal Southwestern Athletic Conference swing, traveling to face Mississippi Valley State on Sunday, October 26, and Jackson State on Monday, October 27.
 
The Jaguars (10-12, 5-3 SWAC) enter the weekend riding a four-match winning streak and playing their most confident volleyball of the season. Southern has captured six of its last seven contests, including three consecutive sweeps over Dillard, SUNO, and Alcorn State, as the Jaguars continue their push up the SWAC standings.
 
Southern's recent surge has been fueled by a potent offensive rhythm and steady defensive play. Ariana Brown continues to lead the charge with 3.45 kills per set, ranking among the SWAC's most productive outside hitters. Brown has reached double figures in kills in 16 matches this season, providing consistent scoring on the pins.
 
Jordan Felix has been the steady hand guiding the offense, averaging 6.70 assists per set, while Najah Harris anchors the defense with 3.65 digs per set and reliable serve-receive that stabilizes the backcourt.
 
The Jaguars will first visit Mississippi Valley State (3-14, 0-9 SWAC), which is searching for its first conference win of the season. The Devilettes are led by Alaya Rhodes, who averages 2.33 kills and 1.90 digs per set, providing versatility at the net and in the back row.
 
Southern's second test of the trip comes Monday at Jackson State (8-11, 7-2 SWAC), one of the conference's top contenders. The Tigers feature a dynamic attack led by Jayden James, who averages 3.97 kills per set, and setter Karys Dove, who distributes 5.04 assists per set to power JSU's balanced offense.
 
With the regular season winding down, the Jaguars will look to carry their momentum into a challenging road swing and strengthen their positioning ahead of the SWAC Tournament. First serve at Mississippi Valley is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday, followed by a 4 p.m. matchup at Jackson State on Monday.
