BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southern University volleyball team continued its midseason surge with a commanding 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-18, 25-17) over Alcorn State on Thursday night inside Seymour Gymnasium. With the victory, the Jaguars improve to 10-12 overall and 5-3 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play, extending their win streak to four matches and taking their seventh win in the last eight outings.

From the opening serve, Southern controlled the tempo with a steady offensive rhythm and disciplined defense. The Jaguars hit .230 as a team while holding Alcorn (2-19, 1-7 SWAC) to a .056 hitting percentage, marking one of their most efficient defensive performances of the season.

Junior outside hitter
Ariana Brown once again led the way, tallying eight kills on a .240 clip to go along with four digs.
Bailee St. Romain added six kills and a team-high two blocks, providing consistency in the middle.
Zaria Nelson continued her strong play at the net with six kills on an impressive .357 hitting percentage, while
Hanna Pereira came off the bench to make an instant impact—finishing a perfect 5-for-5 with two service aces in two sets of action. Setter
Jordan Felix orchestrated the offense with 21 assists and added solid defensive touches.

Najah Harris anchored the defense with 14 digs and a stellar .947 serve-receive percentage, while
Sereniti Johnson contributed six digs and a service ace. The Jaguars also dominated at the net, finishing with five total team blocks and holding Alcorn under .110 hitting in each set.

Southern set the tone early, using a 6-1 run late in the first set to pull ahead and close out a 25-19 opener. The Jaguars maintained their momentum in the second, breaking an 11-11 tie behind timely swings from Brown and Pereira. In the final frame, Southern's balance on both sides of the ball proved too much, as the Jaguars raced to a 20-12 lead before sealing the sweep at 25-17.

Alcorn's Courtney Carter led the Braves with nine kills, while Juliana Henao handed out seven assists and Tomoni Giddings anchored the defense with 20 digs.

Southern will hit the road for four straight matches starting with a trip to Itta Bena, Mississippi to take on Mississippi Valley on Sunday, October 26 with first serve at 6 p.m. The Jaguars will then travel to Jackson State for a 6 p.m. match on Monday.
