BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southern University volleyball team returns home to Seymour Gymnasium for a pivotal Southwestern Athletic Conference matchup against Alcorn State on Wednesday, October 23, at 6 p.m. The Jaguars look to continue their midseason momentum as they close in on the final stretch of conference play.
 
Southern (9-12, 4-3 SWAC) has found its rhythm over the past few weeks, winning six of its last seven matches, including a dominant sweep over Southern University at New Orleans on Tuesday night. Head coach Dawn Barnes' squad has leaned on a balanced offensive attack and a tightening defense that has steadily improved throughout October.
 
Junior outside hitter Ariana Brown has been a force on the pin, leading the Jaguars in kills per set while providing steady production and energy at the net. Setter Jordan Felix continues to pace the offense with precision, averaging 6.69 assists per set and showing strong chemistry with Southern's front line. Defensively, Najah Harris anchors the back row with her sharp instincts and leadership, keeping opponents off balance with timely digs and solid passing.
 
Southern will look to maintain its offensive efficiency after hitting over .350 as a team in its most recent outing. With a win, the Jaguars could solidify their position in the middle of the SWAC standings and build confidence ahead of a crucial late-season stretch.
 
Alcorn State (2-18, 1-6 SWAC) enters the contest seeking to bounce back after a tough weekend. The Braves are led by Rylan Jones, who averages 2.16 kills per set and has been the focal point of their offense, while Juliana Henao runs the offense with 5.76 assists per set. Defensively, libero Tomoni Giddings has posted over 200 digs on the year, helping to keep Alcorn competitive in long rallies.
 
With both teams battling for conference positioning, Wednesday's matchup promises to deliver an exciting night of volleyball inside Seymour Gymnasium.
