BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southern University volleyball team returns to Seymour Gymnasium on Tuesday, Oct. 15, to host Dillard University in a midweek non-conference matchup. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
Â
The Jaguars (7-12, 4-3 SWAC) are coming off one of their strongest outings of the season, earning a four-set win over Florida A&M on Sunday — the program's first victory over the Rattlers on record. After dropping the opening set, Southern regrouped to win three straight behind a balanced offensive attack and timely defensive plays that sealed the match.
Â
Under the direction of Head Coach
Dawn Barnes, the Jaguars continue to show growth and resilience as the season progresses. Southern has developed a strong presence at home, using energy from the Seymour Gymnasium crowd to fuel its recent success.
Â
Ariana Brown leads the charge offensively, pacing the Jaguars in kills per set and serving as a reliable weapon at the net. Her ability to score from multiple spots on the floor has been key to Southern's rhythm in transition and late-set execution.
Â
Running the offense is senior setter
Jordan Felix, who averages 6.42 assists per set to rank among the Southwestern Athletic Conference leaders. Felix's consistency and leadership have been vital to the team's success, as she continues to spread the attack and maintain composure in critical moments.
Â
On the defensive end,
Najah Harris anchors the back row with steady play in serve-receive and digging. Her effort, communication, and quick reads allow the Jaguars to extend rallies and convert key points.
Â
Tuesday's contest provides Southern with an opportunity to fine-tune its system ahead of the final stretch of conference play. The Jaguars will look to maintain their offensive balance and continue their trend of improved serve efficiency and first-ball contact.
Â
Dillard, a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, enters the matchup with an energetic, fast-paced style of play led by an aggressive serve game and quick-tempo offense. The Bleu Devils are expected to challenge Southern's defensive organization and provide a valuable midseason test before the Jaguars return to SWAC competition.
