BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern University dropped a hard-fought four-set contest to Bethune-Cookman on Thursday night at Seymour Gymnasium, 24-26, 25-23, 20-25, 14-25, in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
 
The Jaguars (6-12, 3-3 SWAC) showed resilience after dropping the opening set, rallying to even the match behind a balanced offensive effort from Sophie Diouf and Bailee St. Romain. Southern capitalized on Wildcat miscues and strong play at the net to take the second frame, 25-23.
 
Ariana Brown led the Jaguars with 12 kills and nine digs, while Diouf added 10 kills and four blocks. Najah Harris anchored the back row with 19 digs, and Jordan Felix directed the offense with 28 assists and nine digs—falling just shy of her seventh double-double of the season.
 
Despite carrying momentum into the third set, Southern struggled to sustain its attack, hitting .081 and .032 over the final two frames. Bethune-Cookman (7-11, 4-2 SWAC) found its rhythm down the stretch, posting a .265 hitting percentage in the fourth set to seal the win.
 
Amya Jennings and Tiyanna Preston led the Wildcats with 11 kills apiece, while Sthefany Carvalho collected 27 digs on the defensive end.

Southern will be back in action on Sunday when the Jaguars take on Florida A&M with first serve set for 6 p.m. inside Clifford Seymour Gym.
