Southern releases 2024-25 men’s basketball schedule

BATON ROUGE, LA -- The Southern University Men's Basketball team released the 2024-25 schedule. Which includes 13 non-conference games, featuring two teams who participated in the NCAA Tournament a season ago.

Southern will travel to South Dakota on (Nov. 4), University of Iowa on (Nov. 7), and continuing the road swing on (Nov. 13) playing at Texas A&M - Commerce.

The Jaguars will return for their home opener against Ecclesia College (Nov. 17), then travel to Texas A&M (Nov. 20), return home vs Champion Christian College (Nov. 25) and then close out November on the road at Louisiana Tech (Nov. 30).

Southern will start the month of December on the road, traveling to Tulsa on (Dec. 7) before returning to the friendly confines of the F.G. Clark Activity Center hosting Lindsey Wilson College on (Dec. 10). The Jaguars will close out the month of December on a four-game road swing starting at Ole Miss (Dec. 17), Loyola Marymount (Dec. 20), University of Southern California (Dec. 22) and Nebraska (Dec. 30).

"I feel we put together another strong schedule, that will challenge our team and give us some strong competition," said Head Men's Basketball Coach Kevin Johnson. "I want to thank Deputy Athletics Director Rodney Kirschner for all his hard work and doing a great job putting together a competitive schedule." "We are excited to get going and we feel that this schedule will help us compete at the highest level going into SWAC play!"

Southern opens Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play with early conference road swing when the Jaguars travel to Texas Southern (Jan. 4) and Prairie View (Jan. 6). Southern will return home for a three-game home-stand with match ups vs Florida A&M (Jan. 11), Bethune-Cookman (Jan. 13) and alumni day against Grambling State (Jan. 18). The Jaguars will visit Arkansas Pine Bluff on (Jan. 25) and Mississippi Valley State on (Jan. 27) to end the month of January.

To open February, they have a two-game home stretch against Alcorn State (Feb. 1) and Jackson State (Feb. 3).

The second half of the SWAC conference schedule starts off with the Jaguars traveling to Alabama A&M on (Feb. 8) and Alabama State on (Feb. 10) before hosting Prairie View (Feb.15) and Texas Southern (Feb.17). The Jaguars will go on three-game road stretch against Grambling State (Feb. 22), Bethune Cookman (March 1) and Florida A&M (March 3).

To conclude the SWAC regular season, Southern will host the final two games against Alabama State (March 6) and Alabama A&M (March 8).

The 2025 Starry SWAC Basketball Tournament will be hosted in Atlanta, GA at the Gateway Center Arena from (March 11 - March 15).
