BIRMINGHAM, AL -- Southern University women's basketball team season comes to an end on Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals round of the 2024 Starry SWAC Women's Basketball Tournament. The Jaguars fall to Alcorn State by seven-points, 59-52 inside Bartow Arena on the campus of University of Alabama at Birmingham.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jaguars went 18-of-56 shooting from the field (32.1 percent) and 2-of-12 from 3PT (16.7 percent).
- SU was led by Taylor Williams (7-12 FG, 0-41FT) finished the day with 14 points, along with five boards.
- Chloe Fleming (4-11 FG, 4-4 FT) chipped in 13 points and three steals, while Genovea Johnson (2-10 FG, 5-7 FT) added in nine points and six rebounds. Aniya Gourdine (2-7 FG, 3-4 Ft) finished with seven points.
- Eight Jaguars played scored in the contest with two finishing the night with double digits.
- ASU shot 17-of-45 from the field (37.8 percent) and 4-of-12 from 3PT (33.3 percent).
- Southern pulled down 19 rebounds, including 32 on the defensive side of the glass.
- The Lady Braves registered 38 rebounds, with 29 coming on the defensive end.
- The Jaguars also went 14-for-24 from the free-throw line.
- The Lady Braves sank 21-of-23 from the charity stripe.
- Southern University finished the night with seven steals and eight assists.
- Alcorn State University came away with five steals and eleven assists.

Head coach Carlos Funchess said farewell to nine young ladies that has paved the way for the generations to come. Osha Cummings, Ra'von Robertson, Kyanna Morgan, Cayla Obillo, Sky Castro, Taylor Williams, Chloe Fleming, Raven White and Genovea Johnson.
