BATON ROUGE, LA -- Southern and Grambling went toe-to-toe for forty-minutes on Alumni night inside F. G. Clark Activity Center on Saturday afternoon. Grambling came out on top in a heart breaker defeating the Jags 59-57 to take sole possession of second place n the conference standing.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jaguars went 21-of-57 shooting from the field (36.8 percent) and 5-of-11 from 3PT (45.5 percent).
- SU was led by Taylor Williams (3-7 FG, 3-4 FT) and Aleighyah Fontenot (3-7 FG, 3-5 3PT) finished the night with a nine points each.
- Chloe Fleming (4-7 FG, 0-1 FT), Kyanna Morgan (3-6 FG, 1-2 3PT) and Raven White (3-6 FG, 2-2 FT) chipped in eight points each, six rebounds and three steals on the night. Aniya Gourdine (2-7 FG, 2-2 FT) added seven points.
- Nine Jaguars played scored in the contest.
- GSU shot 21-of-45 from the field (46.7 percent) and 3-of-8 from 3PT (37.5 percent).
- Southern pulled down 27 rebounds, including 15 on the defensive side of the glass.
- The Tigers registered 32 rebounds, with 25 coming on the defensive end.
- The Jaguars also went 10-for-15 from the free-throw line.
- The Tigers sank 14-of-24 from the charity stripe.
- Southern University finished the night with seven steals and fifteen assists. Fleming had a career-high 13 assists on the night.
- Grambling State University came away with eight steals and nineteen assists.

Southern will be back in action on Saturday against Bethune- Cookman Wildcats. Game is slated for a Noon live on HBCU GO.
