Southern Closes Out Indoor Track Season At the 2024 SWAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

BIRMINGHAM, AL. – Southern University men's and women's indoor track and field closed out the 2024 indoor season at the SWAC Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, AL where Lawrenee' Hart was named Co-Outstanding Field Performer. Six different athletes had personal best in their respective events. The Jaguars came away with fourteen top five finishes and four SWAC Runner-up their performances.

Things got started early with field events where Hart (women weight throw), Azariah Foster (women triple jump) and Roman Smith (men high jump) finished first overall in their respective events.     
 
Later that afternoon the running events got kicked off where the Jaguars had one more SWAC Runner-up performance by Ta'Cardrick Alexander (men's 800m) and Clydeter.

WOMEN'S TRACK EVENTS
  • Jada Chevalier finished third in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.75
  • Trinity Bolden finished third in the women's 60m with a time of 7.46
  • Camille Lewis finished fourth in the women's 800m and recorded her personal best with a time of 2:13.64 
  • Shani Simon finished in seventh place and recorded her personal best in the 400m with a time of 56.82 (prelim)
  • Women's 1600m relay ran a season's best 3:52.19 (8th)

WOMEN'S FIELD EVENTS
  • Foster finished SWAC Runner-up in the women's triple jump runner up and PR 12.11 (39-8.75) 
  • Hart finished SWAC Runner-up in the women's Weight throw runner-up 17.47m (57'3.75) 
  • Hart finished fourth in the women's shot put with a throw of 13.05m (42'9.75")
  • Yahria Bass finished in fifth in the women's triple jump 5th place 5th place and PR with a jump of 11.91m (39'1") 
  • Sahnya Lathon finished sixth in the women's triple jump and PR with a jump of 11.86m (38'11)
  • A'ja Gore finished fifth iin the womens weight throw and recored her season best throw
  • Gore finished third in the women's shot-put with a throw of 13.15m (43'1".75)
  • Jae'l Dunn finished seventh in the women's weight throw with a throw of (16.04m) 52'7".50
  • Peyton Funderburk finished fifth in the women's long jump with a jump of 5.65m (18'6".50)
  • Mitchell finished eighth in the women's Heptalon 
 MEN'S TRACK EVENTS MEN'S FIELD EVENTS
  • Roman Smith finished SWAC runner-up in the men's high jump with a jump of 2.14m (7ft)
  • Reginald King finished seventh in the men's triple jump and recorded his personal best with a jump of 14.76m (48'5.25")
  • Mehki Smith finished fourth in the men's shot put with a throw of 14.42m (47'3.75")
  • Calvin Adolph finished seventh in the men's weight throw and recorded his personal best with a throw of 14.26m (46'9.25)

UP NEXT
Southern will be back in action in March when outdoor season starts on March 14-15 when the Jags travel Ruston, LA for the Jim Mize Relays on the Campus of Louisiana Tech at the Jim Mize Track & Field Complex.
