HOW IT HAPPENED

• Southern jumped out and took a 4-1 lead over the Braves before giving up three runs in the top of the third inning to tie the game up 4 all.

• Southern went scoreless for two straight innings. before their bats started ringing and taking full control of the game picking up six runs in three of the last four innings. 

• Jaden Brasseaux closed out the game by sending two of the five Braves batter to the dugout by strike outs to pick up his first save of the season. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Southern finished the day with 10 hits and Alcorn State finished with eleven hits.

• Alcorn State committed four errors.

• Southern left five runners on base, while Alcorn State left seven.

• Southern struck out nine times, while Alcorn State struck out eleven times.

• Quincy Smith II picked up the Jags first run of the season off Tyeler Hawkins double down the right field line. Jalon Mack and Smith II finished the day with two hits each, while Hawkins, Darryl Loyd III, Jacoby Radcliffe, Khyle Radcliffe, Ryan Sadir and Caleb Tart finished with one run each.

• Eight different Jaguars batters recorded a hit. Mack and Smith II led SU with two hits each.

The Jaguars will be back in action on Saturday afternoon for day two of the Cactus Jack HBCU Classic as they take on Grambling State at 3 PM.
