Baton Rouge, LA – In an exhilarating match at Seymour Gymnasium, Southern University's volleyball team showcased remarkable resilience, overcoming Grambling State in a dramatic five-set battle. The Jaguars emerged victorious with set scores of 25-19, 28-30, 25-22, 19-25, and 15-12, thrilling the home crowd of 325 fans.
The match was intense from the outset, with both teams exchanging points and momentum. SU exhibited a strong start, winning the first set 25-19, driven by a powerful performance from Tamara Chavez, who recorded 15 kills and proved to be a dominant force at the net.
Grambling responded fiercely, taking the second set in a nail-biting 30-28 finish. However, the Jaguars demonstrated their fighting spirit, bouncing back to secure the third set 25-22, with Najah Harris contributing crucial points.
Clutch Performances
As the match progressed, it became clear that the Jaguars depth would play a pivotal role. Jordan Felix added 10 kills and helped to maintain pressure on Grambling's defense, while Alicia Hearn contributed both offensively and defensively, showcasing her versatility with five kills and strong digs.
The pivotal fifth set saw both teams trading leads, but SU's relentless effort and determination shone through. The Jaguars secured the final set 15-12, much to the delight of the home crowd, with key plays from Tamara Chavez and Bailee St. Romain helping seal the victory.
