Southern Loses Overtime Thriller to Bethune Cookman 83-81

DAYTONA BEACH, Fl. -- Southern dropped a heartbreak in overtime as they suffered their first conference loss Monday night at Moore Gymnasium 83-81.

Southern (9-8, 3-1) had three Jaguars in double figures. Lead by Tai'Reon Joseph with 31 points, two steals and two rebounds. Brandon Davis helped out with 20 points, three rebounds and three assist. Tidjiane Dioumassi finished with 12 points and six assist. Derrick Tezeno added eight points and team high eight assist.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Southern jumped out to a 7-0 lead as the first 15 minutes was back and forth contest.

The Jaguars found themselves with a 41-36 lead at the break.

Southern took its then-largest lead of the game 56-42 after Joseph made 3-pointer with 12:43 left in the half after holding the Wildcats scoreless for two minutes. JaRonn Wilkens free throws extended the lead 71-69 with 21.0 seconds remaining, but the Wildcats hit a contested jumper with 3.0 seconds remaining forcing the game to overtime.
Southern made it a two-possession game with two-and-a-half to play in OT on a Brandon Davis layup that made it 78-73, but BCU answered with a layup to make it a three-point game once again.  With 7.1 seconds remaining, Southern pushed the ball down the court. Derrick Tezeno's three missed, but a big offensive rebound and putback by Davis just missed the mark, but a foul was called on the play sending Davis to the line for two free throws.  Davis's first free throw just rimed out. The Jaguars attempted to miss the second shot in hopes of getting an offensive rebound, but it fell into a Wildcats hands as the final horn sounded.
