MEMPHIS, TN – The Southern University's women's soccer team is set to open the regular season against No. 20 University of Memphis at the Memphis Track and Soccer Complex on August 17 at 7 p.m. and streamed on ESPN+.

The Lady Jaguars are coming off a record-breaking season that saw them reach the SWAC semifinals for the second time in three seasons. The 9-9-2 record was the most wins in a single season and the first time in program history the team finished at .500.

Looking to replace 17 players off of last season's team, including leading score and All-SWAC performer in Lonnie Mulligan, the Lady Jaguars brought in six transfers and four freshmen. Southern returns 11 players who contributed to the record-breaking season, including All-SWAC defender Aniya Clark and goalkeeper Sydney Bellamy.

Southern has three transfers with experience at the D-1 level. Sydney Babineaux appeared in 48 games with 22 starts in her three years at Troy. Lauryn Oliver appeared in 12 games at the University of Texas over three seasons and Gia Johnson had 12 appearances in her lone season at Mount St. Mary's.

Southern competed in one exhibition game against Northwestern State to prepare for the season. The Lady Jaguars got off to a slow start in the first half, falling behind 1-0, but found their groove in the second half. After being outshot 10-4 in the first 45 minutes, the Lady Jaguars were more aggressive in the final stanza and outshot the Lady Demons 7-0.

Memphis comes into the season ranked No. 20 in the coach's preseason poll. The Tigers are back-to-back American Athletic Conference champions and reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament in the 2023 season. Memphis added 10 players to their returning 18.
