Nicholls Defeat Lady Jaguars 6-3

THIBODAUX, LA – Southern battled Nichols in a close game at Swanner Field on Wednesday afternoon, but the miscues on the field ended up being too much for the Lady Jaguars to overcome. Nichols came away with a 6-3 victory.
 
Southern dropped to 13-31 while Nicholls improved to 24-22.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Southern got on the board first to start the game. Asia George reached on an error and stole second. George would come in to score on a single by Alana Mark.
  • Nicholls would respond in the bottom of the inning by tying things up at one apiece.
  • The Colonels would add two in the second and third to take a 5-1 lead after three innings of play.
  • Southern would respond in the fourth. Londyn Lau would walk with one out and advance to second. Alissa Castaneda would get hit by a pitch before turning the lineup back to the top of the order. George would hit a triple to left center to score Lau and Castaneda, cutting the lead to 5-3.
  • Nicholls would get a triple of their own to lead off the fourth and follow that with a single to extend the lead back to 6-3.
  • The Lady Jaguars would not be able to produce anymore runs the remaining three innings.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Nichols outhit Southern 9-5.
  • The Lady Jaguars committed four errors while Nichols had two.
  • Southern would leave six runners stranded and the Colonels left seven on base.
  • Southern drew one walk and struck out six times.
  • Five different Lady Jaguars collected a hit on the day. George led the team going 1-for-3 with two RBIs and scoring once.
  • Claire Sisco and MaKynli Miller went 2-for-2 to lead Nicholls at the plate. Sisco scored twice while Miller scored once.
UP NEXT
Southern will host their final weekend series of the season on April 28-29 against Prairie View A&M at Lady Jaguar Field with Friday's game schedule for 5 p.m. Senior Day festivities will be held on Saturday with gams at noon and 2 p.m.
