GRAMBLING, La. – Southern's softball team gave Grambling all they wanted and more in an 11 inning affair to start the doubleheader Saturday afternoon at GSU Softball Complex. The Lady Jaguars would come up short 7-6 before falling 11-0 in game two.
Southern dropped to 7-25 overall and 4-8 in SWAC play. Grambling improved to 23-12-1 on the year and 9-3 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grambling jumped on the board first to take a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
- Southern would strike back in the third. Alissa Castaneda got on and would get all the way to third on an errant throw, allowing Kameryn Adkins to score. Castaneda would score on a ground out by Asia George to give the Lady Jaguars the lead 2-1.
- Grambling responded with three four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead at 5-2.
- Both teams went down in order in the fourth before Adkins would use her speed to hit an inside the park home run.
- Southern would take advantage of two Lady Tigers errors to take a 6-4 lead. McKenzie Ogden would lay down a bunt single to score George. Ogden would score on a double by Anabella Valadez to tie the game. Adkins would give the Lady Jaguars the lead with a single to score Valadez.
- GSU would get a leadoff double in the bottom of the seventh. The Lady Tigers would bunt the runner over to third and home to tie up the ballgame.
- Southern and Grambling would combine for just one hit in extra innings, but Grambling would score in the bottom of the 11thg after the international rule went into effect, each team starts with a runner on second.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Grambling would outhit Southern, 8-7.
- The Lady Jaguars had one error, while Grambling would finish with four errors.
- Southern would leave four runners stranded and Alcorn left nine on base.
- Southern drew no walks and struck out four times.
- Adkins finished 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and scored twice.
- Nyah Jones would go 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead Grambling.

- Grambling would get nine runs on eight hits in the first inning.
- GSU would add two more in the third.

- Grambling collected 13 hits compared to two by Southern.
- The Lady Jaguars committed one error, while Grambling would finish with no errors.
- Southern would leave one runner stranded and GSU left four on base.
- Southern drew one walk and struck out twice.
- George and Keierra Bowman would collect hits for Southern.
- Cadashia Collins went 2-for-3 with 4 RBI to lead the Lady Tigers.
