BATON ROUGE, LA – The Southern University Lady Jaguars (3-14) lost a close one to Alabama A&M, 12-11, and then bounced back against Louisiana Christian, 4-3, to finish out the Defend the Bluff with a 2-1 record at Lady Jaguar Field.
Game 1 – Southern 10, Alabama A&M 12

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alabama A&M got on the board first by scoring by scoring one in the second and two in the fourth innings for a 3-0 lead.
- After going down in order for the first 10 batters, McKenzie Ogden walked in the fourth to be the first Lady Jaguar to reach base. Alissa Castaneda would single behind her and Alana Mark would double to send Odgen home, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
- AAMU would get three runs in the top of the 5th off two home runs to extend the lead to 6-1.
- Southern would respond in the bottom half of the inning. Sydney Wesley and Keira Miracle-Tilford would single to open the frame. Paytin Mercado and Asia George would both walk to cut the lead to 6-2. The Lady Jaguars would score two more on an error by the left fielder and follow that by scoring three more, capped off by a Julia York home run to take a 7-6 lead.
- The Lady Jaguars would add four more in the bottom of the sixth when George would blast a two-run bomb over the right field wall and Mark would hit a two-run homer over left center.
- Alabama A&M would score six unearned runs in the sixth to take the game 12-11.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Alabama A&M would outhit Southern,14-10.
- Southern committed five errors, while Alabama A&M had four.
- Southern would leave three runners on base, compared to eight by the AAMU.
- Southern drew four walks and struck out three times.
- Mark would finish the game 2-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBIs, she now has reached safely in 10 straight games. Wesley and Miracle-Tilford would both finish 2-for-4 and George finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs and scoring twice.
- Abigail Barnes and Serena Herbranson would both finish 3-for-4 with a home run to lead the Lady Bulldogs.
Game 2 – Southern 4, Louisiana Christian 3

L: M. Broussard (2-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Southern would score first in the bottom of the first when Raquel Latta doubled to bring in Ogden, who reached on a fielder's choice in the at bat before.
- Louisiana Christian would take the lead in the second. After loading the bases, a walk and fielder's choice would give them a 2-1 lead.
- The Lady Jaguars would regain the lead in the fourth. York would get her second home run on the day to lead off the inning. Keierra Bowman would single behind her and come around to score later on an LCU error. Kameryn Adkins, who reached on that error, would come into score on a double by George.
- The Wildcats would cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the sixth, but Kairah Williams would shut the door, retiring the final four batters.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Southern would outhit LCU 6-2.
- Southern would finish with one error, compared to three by Louisiana Christian.
- The Wildcats left three on base, compared to five by the Lady Jaguars.
- Six different Southern batters would collect a hit in the game.
- Southern drew one walk and struck out three times.
- George finished 1-for-2 with an RBI, followed by Latta and York at 1-for-3 with an RBI each.
- George is now on a five game hitting streak, while Mark has now reached base in 11 straight.
- Olivia Coaker and Keeley Wright would both go 1-for-3 to lead Louisiana Christian at the Plate.
UP NEXT
The Lady Jaguars will host UMass Lowell on March 8 in a double header. The first game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
