Lady Jaguars Split Doubleheader with Alcorn

BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern would take the opening game of the day 6-5 and Alcorn would win game two 13-3 on Sunday at Lady Jaguar Field. The split gave the Lady Jaguars the series 2-1 over the Lady Braves.
 
Southern is now 5-20 overall and 2-4 in SWAC play. Alcorn moves to 6-16 on the year and 3-3 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alcorn would get on the board first. Alcorn would have the first two batters go down before getting two consecutive hits to gain a 1-0 lead.
  • Alcorn would load the bases in the second with one out, but the Lady Jaguars would be able to get out the jam only giving two runs.
  • The Lady Braves would add two more in the third to take a 5-0 lead.
  • Southern would respond in the bottom of the third by batting around. Aylani Ottley would get things started with a walk and Alissa Castaneda would follow with home run over center field. Asia George would steal home and Jaeslyn Frazier would get an RBI single to cut the lead down to 5-4.
  • Keira Miracle-Tilford would double to open the bottom of the fifth and Alana Mark would put the Lady Jaguars on top with a home run over the left field wall.
  • Chakirrious Parker came in relief and gave up one hit in 4.2 innings of work to pickup her first collegiate win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Alcorn would outhit Southern, 8-7.
  • The Lady Jaguars had five errors, while Alcorn would finish with no errors.
  • Southern would leave two runners stranded and Alcorn left six on base.
  • Southern drew six walks and struck out six times.
  • Castaneda finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored to lead Southern at the plate. Mark finished 1-for-2 with a two-run home run.
  • Hannah Miller and Marsha Hunt finished 2-for-4 and each scored a run for the Lady Braves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alcorn would use power to take the final game of the series finishing with five home runs.
  • The Lady Braves would hit two solo home runs in the first, a three-run home run in the third, a two-run home run in the fourth and a two-run home run in the fifth.
  • Alcorn would score two in the first, one in the second and three in the third and fourth.
  • Southern would score three in the fourth. Mark would open the frame with a walk. Anabella Valadez, McKenzie Ogden, Miracle-Tilford and Frazier would get consecutive hits to score the three runs.
  • Alcorn would get four runs in the fifth to extend the lead back to 13-3.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Alcorn would outhit Southern, 12-9.
  • The Lady Jaguars committed three errors, while Alcorn would finish with one error.
  • Southern would leave five runners stranded and Alcorn left four on base.
  • Southern drew one walk and struck out four times.
  • Ogden would finish 2-for-2 and Miracle-Tilford would finish 1-for-2 with two RBI to lead Southern at the plate.
  • Hunt finished game three 3-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI.
