BATON ROUGE, LA – The Southern University Lady Jaguars (0-7) battle against Eastern Illinois and Arlington Baptist came up short on the opening day of the Mardi Gras Classic at Lady Jaguar field. EIU would take the first game 10-2, while Arlington Baptist would win game two 9-8.
Game 1 – Southern 2, Eastern Illinois 10

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Southern sent EIU down in order to start the game and got on the board first. After a leadoff walk to Asia George, Alana Mark got hold of one that looked to be gone but hit the top of the wall in right center to give the Lady Jaguars a 1-0 lead.
- Eastern Illinois responded in the top of the second scoring two to take the lead, but the Lady Jaguars would tie it up in the bottom half.
- EIU would start to take control of the game by scoring two runs in the third, two in the fourth and four in the sixth.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Eastern Illinois would outhit Southern,10-2.
- Neither team would commit an error.
- Southern would leave one runner on base, compared to three by the EIU.
- Mark would finish the game with a hit and an RBI, while Kameryn Adkins would have the other hit.
- Southern drew two walks and struck out seven times.
- Lindy Milkowski would lead EIU at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs score.
Game 2 – Southern 8, Arlington Baptist 9

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Southern would score first in the bottom of the second. Jaeslyn Frazier would get her first career hit and it would fly over the left center wall to give the Lady Jaguars 1-0 lead.
- ABU would respond by scoring four in the top of the third.
- The Lady Jaguars would cut into the lead in the third by scoring one and would take the lead in the fourth when they exploded for four runs.
- Southern would add one more in the fifth before ABU would capitalize on three SU errors in the sixth to score five unearned runs.
- The Lady Jaguars would cut the lead to one in the bottom of the sixth but were unable to add anymore.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Southern would outhit ABU 9-4.
- Southern would finish with three errors, compared to four by the Patriots.
- ABU left six runners on base compared to seven by Southern.
- Seven different Southern batters would collect a hit in the game.
- Southern drew three walks and struck out two times.
- George and Mark would have the first multi-hit games of the season. George finished 2-for-three with an RBI and a walk. Mark would finish 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
- Amber Aguilar would lead ABU, going 1-for-two with three RBIs, two walks and two runs scored.

The Lady Jaguars will take on Alabama State on the second day of the Mardi Gras Classic with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
