Lady Jaguars Finish NFCA D1 Classic Against St. John’s

CLEARWATER, FL – The Southern University Lady Jaguars (0-4) fell to St. John's University on the final day of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association D1 Leadoff Classic at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Florida.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • St. John's started the scoring in the top off the first with a ground out, scoring the runner from third.
  • With the bases loaded, St. John's Katie Whittaker sent a shot over the center field wall for a grand slam.
  • Asia George recorded the first hit for the Lady Jaguars in the bottom of the third with a triple to right-center.
  • St. John's would score in the sixth inning on back-to-back doubles, increasing their lead to 6-0.
  • SJU would score two more in the seventh to extend their lead to 8-0. Southern get the first two runners on in the bottom half of the inning, but a ball hit to third base that would be turned into a double play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • St. John's out hit Southern 11-4.
  • Neither team committed an error.
  • Southern left three runners on base, while St. John's left six.
  • The Lady Jaguars did not draw any walks and struck out eight times.
  • Christina Mayer, Kameryn Adkins, Keira Miracle-Tilford and George all had hits for the Lady Jaguars.
  • Whittaker was 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs to lead St. John's.
UP NEXT
Southern will return to action on Wednesday, February 15, when they travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to take on the University of Southern Mississippi. First pitch is schedule for 5 p.m.
