PRAIRIE VIEW, TX -- Southern jumped out to an early lead in the first half, but Prairie View battled back in the second half to force overtime and get the victory to give the Jags their first conference loss of the season . Final score was 55-52.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Jaguars dominated the Panthers in the first quarter taking a 13-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 19-6.
- Genovea Johnson led the Jags with eight points each in the first quarter.
- The Panthers picked up their defensive intensity in the second quarter only allowing the Jags six points in the second half.SU took a 6-point lead into the half, 25-19.
- Prairie View continued to dominate the Jaguars outscoring them 18-4 in the third quarter, 37-29.
- The Jaguars outscored the Tigers 20-12 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. The score was 49-49 at the end of regulation.
- Tyeniesha Metcalf picks up an old fashion three-point play to give the Jags a 51-49 lead in overtime. SU missed their next six baskets, falling to the Panthers in overtime.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jaguars went 22-of-63 shooting from the field (34.9 percent) and 2-of-15 from 3PT (13.3 percent).
- SU was led by Johnson (6-14 FG, 1-2 FT) and Metcalf ( 6-13 FG, 1-1 FT) finished with 13 points each.
- Amani Mcwain (3-9 FG, 1-3 3PT) chipped in seven points on the day for the Jaguars.
- Nine Jaguars scored in the contest
- Prairie View shot 19-of-50 from the field (38.0 percent) and 3-of-20 from 3PT (15.0 percent).
- Southern pulled down 33 rebounds, including 26 on the defensive side of the glass.
- Prairie View registered 45 rebounds, with 37 coming on the defensive end.
- The Jaguars also went a season high 6-for-21 from the free-throw line.
- The Panthers sank 14-of-27 from the charity stripe.
- Southern University finished the night with ten steals and three assists.
- Prairie View University came away with three steals and eleven assists.

Southern will return home for three straight home games, starting on Saturday, January 7th as they face-off with the Rattlers from Florida A&M at 3 PM live on Jaguar Sports Network, Monday, January 9th against Bethune-Cookman at 5:30 PM and for the annual Bayou Classic on the Hardwood on Saturday, January 14th as they take the team from North Louisiana at 12:30 PM.
