Jaguars Defeat Mississippi Valley State 84-70

ITTA BENA, Miss. | Brion Whitley led the Jaguars offensively, scoring a team-high 18 points to go along with six rebounds and two assists. Three other Jaguars scored in double figures. Festus Ndumanya recorded his first career double-double in a Southern uniform as he scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds. Terrell Williams Jr. finished with 13 points and three assist. JaRonn Wilkens tied his career-high with 12 points and five rebounds.
 
Southern (10-10, 6-1 SWAC) got back on track as they defeated Mississippi Valley (2-20, 1-7) 84-70 Monday night at Harrison HPER Complex. 
 
The Jaguars led 47-39 at the half. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • Southern shot 56.7 percent (34-of-60) from the field, 27.3 percent (3-of-11) from the 3-point line and 65.0 percent (13-of-20) from the free-throw line
  • Southern finished with 56 points in the paint, 38 bench points, 15 points off 11 Delta Devils Turnovers, seven fast break points and four second-chance points 
  • Jaguars outrebounded MVSU 30-23
  • MVSU went 22-of-53 (41.5 percent) from the floor, 8-of-18 (44.4) from the 3-point line and 18-of-23 (78.3 percent) from the charity stripe
  • Tyronn Mosley, Terry Collins and Rayquan Brown all scored in double figures for the Delta Devils. Mosley finished with a team-high 17 points
  • MVSU finished with 28 bench points, 24 points in the paint, 14 points off 11 SU turnovers, 13 fast break points and six second-chance points
UP NEXT 
Southern returns to the friendly confines of the F.G. Clark Activity Center as they host league leader Alcorn State on Saturday Jan. 28. Tip-off against the Braves is set for 5:30 p.m. central time and the game will be live streamed on Jaguar Sports Network.
