NEW ORLEANS – The Southern University Lady Jaguars (0-7) dropped the opening match of the New Orleans Invitational to the University of New Orleans Privateers (3-4) Thursday night at the Lakefront Arena by the score of 3-1.
SU 1, UNO 3
(16-25, 19-25, 27-25, 20-25)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Jaguars had an early lead at 2-1 but the Privateers were able to use a 5-0 run to take the lead. Southern had a 5-2 run of their own to cut the score to 9-12 before UNO used a timeout. UNO finished out the set with a 13-7 run to take it 16-25.
- The second start started with teams trading points. With the score tied 4-4, UNO used a 7-2 run, forcing SU to call a timeout. Out of that timeout, UNO used another 5-3 run making the Lady Jaguars use their second timeout of the set. Southern then used a 5-3 run of their own, forcing UNO to take a timeout of their own. The teams would then trade points the rest of the way with UNO taking set two 19-25
- The third set had the Privateers jump out to a 7-2 lead and once again, Coach Jacobs called a timeout to slow down the momentum. The Lady Jaguars would not go down quietly. The teams would once again trade points before Southern used their last timeout down 17-21. The Lady Jaguars would get the next three points and force UNO to use a timeout of their own. Out of the timeout, UNO would extend the lead to 20-23 before Southern had a rally of their own to tie it at 23 apiece. The teams would trade points before the Lady Jaguars were able to secure the match with the final two points, 27-25.
- The fourth set had the Lady Jaguars jump out to a 6-2 lead. UNO would use a timeout and proceed with a 5-0 run to take the lead before Southern would take their own timeout. Teams would continue to trade points and at 17-21, the Lady Jaguars would use their final timeout of the set. UNO would go on to win the fourth set, 20-25.
