Baton Rouge, La. – The Southern Lady Jaguars (2-4-1) scored two early goals and held on late to take a 2-1 victory over Louisiana Christian University (2-0).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Jaguars got things started early. Victoria Thomas took the corner and sent it into the box where Lonnie Mulligan found the back of the net with a header in the sixth minute.
- Three minutes later, Kyra Reeves took a rebound and got past the goalie to make the score 2-0.
- Both teams would trade shots the rest of the half but Southern would hold on to the 2-0 lead.
- Louisiana Christian would get on the board in the 61st minute.
- Louisiana Christian had many opportunities in the second half to tie the game. Sydney Bellamy had nine goals to secure the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- LCU had 18 shots compared to 10 by SU
- Southern had five shots on goal while Louisiana Christian had 10
- SU had nine saves and LCU had three
- The Lady Jaguars had 14 fouls to 6 by the Wildcats
- Corners were even at 3 a piece
