Southern Sweeps Prairie View To Move Into First Place In The West

BATON ROUGE, LA -- Southern University baseball team started the weekend in a two-way tie for third place in the Western Division before sweeping Prairie View to move into a share of first place with the Panthers in front of a packed house inside Lee-Hines Stadium on the campus of Southern University.

The Jags tallied three runs in the fourth inning. SU big bats in the inning were led by Justin Wiley and O'Neill Burgos


The Jaguars picked up nine runs off fourteen hits on the day. In the first inning Tremaine Spears singled on a ground ball to center field to send O'Neill Burgos home to give the Jags their first run of the day. Taj Porter doubled on a line drive to center field to send Spears home to give the Jags their second run of the day. In the third innings Spears singled through the left side to send Burgos home to pick up his second run of the day. In the fourth inning Justin Wiley doubled down the left field line to send Hunter Tabb home to give SU a 4-1 lead over the Panthers. Burgos singled to the right field wall to send Jovante Dorris and Justin Wiley home to give the Jags a 6-1 lead. In the sixth inning Taj Porter singled through the right side to send JJ Rollon and Burgos home to to take a seven run nod over the panthers. In the seventh inning Tabb scored the Jags final run of the day off a sac-fly from Wiley

Christian Davis was huge today throwing 101 pitches with four strike outs and only giving up one run on the day. Davis picks up his second win of the season

SU pulled away for good with four huge runs in the fourth innings led by Hunter Tabb picking up 3 RBI's on a 0-1 count and Jaylen Armstrong picking another RBI on a 2-0 count singled to the left field. 

The Jaguars picked up seven runs off ten hits on the day. In the third inning Justin Wiley hits a one run homer 375 feet over the left field wall to give the Jags their first run of. the third and final game of the day. In the fourth inning Hunter Tabb doubled down the left field line to send in three Jags to take a 4-2 lead over the Panthers. Jaylen Armstrong singled to the left field to send Tabb home to give the jags a three-run lead. In the fifth inning Burgos hit a line drive up the middle of the field  to send Dorris home to extend the Jags lead by one run. JJ Rollon score the Jags seventh run off a double play by Tremaine Spears.

Khristian Paul picks up his second straight win of the season throwing 94 pitches in six innings with three strike outs. Nicholas Wilson picks up his second save of the season off 13 pitches and two strike outs in only one inning.  


SU is 21-28, 18-9 SWAC on the season.

Southern will be back in action on Tuesday night for the Jaguars final mid-week game of the season in the Crescent City as they take on New Orleans Maestri Field On the campus of University of New Orleans.
First pitch is slated for 6:30 PM.
