Southern University Athletics Announces COVID-19 Protocols for A.W. Mumford Stadium

BATON ROUGE, LA - Southern University Athletics announced today the updated COVID-19 protocols for entering A.W. Mumford Stadium and all athletic related facilities for the fall 2021 season. As we continue to navigate the coronavirus pandemic and with the significant threat presented by COVID-19 across the state of Louisiana due to the highly transmissible Delta variant, SU will require all A.W. Mumford Stadium guests 12 years of age and older prior to entry and during the game must wear mask/face coverings at all times, unless eating or drinking. The decision comes after consultation with – and support from – Governor John Bel Edwards, SU President-Chancellor Dr. Ray L. Belton, SU Board chairman Atty. Domoine D. Rutledge, SU's Board of Supervisors and Director of Athletics Roman Banks.

"As the only HBCU system in the state of Louisiana, our foremost responsibility is to ensure the safety of our students, our supporters, and Jaguar Nation," Belton said. "We must take all reasonable measures to protect our campus and community, not only on game days, but long after guests have left A.W. Mumford and The Bluff." The series nature of threat to our health, well-being, and our lives, we must do our part to stop the spread."
The COVID-19 policy along with SU's Clear Bag Policy will be in effect beginning on September 11th for the home football opener against Miles College.

A list of vaccination sites in Louisiana is available at  www.ldh.la.gov.

To gain entry into A.W. Mumford Stadium, guests 12 and older must wear a mask/face covering at all times while sitting inside A.W. Mumford Stadium. They may remove their mask/face covering when only eating or drinking.

For all inside seating (A.W. Mumford Fieldhouse Suites and Press Box Suites) guests must show proof of at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine or vaccination card, a photo or photocopy of a vaccination card, or verified digital proof of vaccination, including LA Wallet or another government-sanctioned mobile app, will be accepted, with entry granted upon visual inspection. Guests will also be required to wear a mask/face covering.

"There is nothing like A.W. Mumford stadium on a Saturday night along with Jaguar Nation tailgating. We have the best fans in college football, and we are doing everything we can to ensure their experience in A.W. Mumford Stadium this fall is safe and enjoyable," Banks said. "We take everyone's safety very seriously and our football team has reached 100% vaccination, and we are incredibly proud of them for doing their part to protect their team and their community. We ask Jaguar Nation to keep wearing a mask and try and stop the spread and I encourage all Jaguar fans to receive vaccinations today."

SU Athletics will continue to update fans on this season's procedures – including game day prescreening options to expedite entry, FAQs for all safety protocols, and more – as they are finalized.
