BATON ROUGE, LA-- Southern University (1-2, 0-0) travel to Jackson, Mississippi to open Southwestern Athletic Conference play against Mississippi Valley State University (0-2, 0-0) inside Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.
 
This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2016 where SU shutout MVSU by a score of 55-0 in Baton Rouge, LA. The Jaguars hold a 38-9 advantage between the two teams dating back to 1967.

Move That Ball
The Jaguars are averaging 335 yards per game so far this season. Through the air or on the ground, SU has been able to move the ball. Ladarius Skelton was 14 for 21 passing with 207 yards and three touchdowns. Tight End Ethan Howard had three receptions for 54 yards and one touchdown against McNeese State.
 
Defense…Defense
SU has ten players with ten plus total tackles in this very young season, led by Graduate Student Ray Anderson who has 18 tackles. Jordan Lewis continues his pursuit of the record for most sacks in FCS History. On the last time out, he finished the game with two sacks bringing his new total to 30.5 sacks.
