BATON ROUGE, LA.-- Â The Jaguars fast start wasn't good enough to hold off the Cowboys second half surge as they fall 31-24 at home in front of 15,003 fans at A.W. Mumford Stadium.
It was a heavyweight fight for three straight quarters and the Jaguars opened the fourth quarter with a 21-20 lead over the Cowboys. McNeese scored on a 3-yard pass play from Cody Orgeron to Josh Matthews, Cowboys took the lead 28-21.Â
Southern's QB,
Ladarius Skelton finished the night going 14-of-21 passing for 207 yards connecting with three different receivers for touchdowns. SU got their running game established early in the game led byÂ
Craig Nelson who finished with fifty-seven yards off twelve carries and Devon Benn added fifty-three yards on thirteen carries. Freshman Ethan Howard led SU in receiving with fifty-four yards and a score off three receptions, Jamar Washington added forty-six yards off three receptions and Travis Tucker finished the night with one reception for a forty-two yard TD catch form Skelton. Â
The Southern defense was led by senior free-safetyÂ
Chase Foster with eight stops and two pass break-ups. Davin Cotton and Jordan Lewis added seven tackles each. Lewis had a game-high two sacks for 13-yards. Keyshawn Acker and Camron Peterson finished the night with six tackles each. Kaymen St. Junious had three huge pass breakups in his first career start.
The Cowboys running back, Stephon Huderson led all rushers on the night with 112 yards on 23 carries. Orgeron finshed the night going 7-of-16 for seventy-five yards and a TD pass to Matthews.Â

Southern will be back in action on Sept. 26th against Mississippi Valley State University at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson, Mississippi. The game is slated for a 2:05 PM on ESPN+.Â
