PRAIRIE VIEW, TX -- Southern Lady Jaguars women's basketball team rolled past Prairie View 70-39 to sweep the Lady Panthers on the season. 

The dominant performance began on defense, holding the Lady Panthers to only 10 made baskets and only two baskets from behind the arc. Southern out scored the Lady Panthers 20-9 in the third quarter and never looked back as the cruise to the victory Thursday night at the William J. Nicks Building. 

Genovea Johnson led the Jaguars with 15 points along with five rebounds. Kayla Watson finished with 14 points and four boards. Nakia Kincey added 13 points, seven rebounds and 3 steals. Chloe Fleming chipped in 10 points, six rebounds and 5 assists.

"Tonight we got off to a slow start offensively but our defense kept us in the game until we hit a few shots. We did a good job of putting pressure on their guards and forced some turnovers that lead to easy buckets. The ladies did a great job of sharing the ball and creating open shots for their teammates. It was great to get a win tonight, now we have to get ready for Texas Southern on Saturday", said Head Coach Carlos Funchess.

The Lady Jaguars defense forced the Lady Panthers to 24 turnovers, picking up 23 points off turnovers. SU played all nine players with all nine landing in the scoring column. Southern shot 42 percent for the game (25-59) and 21 percent from behind the arc (3-14). SU shot 63 percent from the charity stripe finishing (17-27).

Prairie View was led Kennedy Paul with 13 points along with six rebounds.

The Lady Jaguars will be back in action on Saturday, March 6th as they close out the regular season at Texas Southern. Tip-off is slated for 1 PM.
