NEW ORLEANS, LA -- Southern drops a heart breaker to Grambling State in the 48th Annual Bayou Classic on a last minute field goal with seven seconds left on the clock inside Caesars Superdome. Final score was 29-26.
Ladarius Skelton closed out his stellar career winning his fourth straight Bayou Classic MVP trophy.
Skelton finished the night going 10-of-18 passing for 129 yards with a touchdown pass to his All American tight end Ethan Howard. Jerodd Sims led the Jaguars rushing attack toting the rock 14 times for 75 yards. Howard finished the night with three catches for 49 yards and a score.
The Jaguars defense played a solid game all night led by senior All-American
Chase Foster with nine tackles in his last game of his collegiate career. Jakobi Jones finished the night with eight tackles and a pass breakup. Davin Cotton and Kennen Tate added seven tackles each.
Devon Benn finished his career third overall in Southern University history rushing with 2,586 yards off 537 carries and 20 touchdowns.
Skelton closed out his career fifth overall in Southern University history rushing with 2,254 yards and 31 touchdowns and tenth overall in passing with 3,624 and 30 touchdowns.
Elijah Walker led the Tigers offensive attack going 9-of-20 for 153 yards and 19 carries for 168 yards and score. Running back CJ Russell carried the rock 21 times for 109 yards.
Southern closed out the season 4-7 overall and 3-5 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
