BATON ROUGE, LA. – Southern University (5-6-1, 3-3) defeated Alcorn (1-11, 0-4) by a dominating 5-1 score on senior day Sunday afternoon in Jaguar Park.
Before the game, the Lady Jaguars celebrated its seven athletes and one student athletic trainer.
SU came out attacking and found early success.
Giftee Tor got things started with five shots and two on goal with one finding the back of the net in the 19
th minute. They continued to put pressure on Alcorn the entire first half.
Aniya Clark found the back of the net in the 36
th minute off a corner from
Marlene Godoy. The lead grew to 3-0 on a Lady Brave's miscue a minute later. Alcorn tried to clear the ball, but the ball went backwards for an own goal. They finished with 13 shots and five on goal.
The only blemish in the first half was a goal off a penalty kick when a handball was called inside the box.
Amaya Webb and
Alyssa Terry both scored goals in the second half when the Lady Jaguars put it on cruise control.
Chioma Eriken continued to control the goal. Other than the penalty kick, she kept Alcorn out the net with seven saves. In the 58
th minute Alcorn fouled in the box and Eriken's name was called to take the penalty kick for her first shot in her career.
UP NEXT
The Lady Jaguars finish off the season with three straight road games. They will start that stretch when they travel to Huntsville, Ala. to take on Alabama A&M on Friday October 22 for a 4 p.m. first kick.
