HUNTSVILLE, AL – Southern (3-5, 3-1 SWAC) cold shooting afternoon doomed the Jaguars as they lost to Alabama A&M (4-0, 2-0 SWAC) 68-58.
Southern had only one player in double digit scoring and were led by graduate transfer
Harrison Henderson who recorded a career/season-high 21 points and grabbed game-high 10 rebounds recording his third double-double of the season.
Southern opened the game on a 9-0 run with Henderson scoring the first six points and Lee's three pointer. Before Tucker three point basked got the Bulldogs on the board. After trading baskets back and forth Henderson layup with 8:54 left in the half gave SU the 20-19 lead before the eight minute media timeout. Alabama A&M extended the lead 34-29 with :22 seconds remaining in the first half off Hicks three pointer but Henderson got fouled on the ensuing possession and made both free throws with the Jaguars trailing 31-34 at halftime. Henderson led SU with 17 points in the first half.
In the second half the cold shooting woes continued, as the closest the Jaguars would get to the Bulldogs was within five points as they never lead in the 2nd half. The Bulldogs had the lead for 26:01 of the game.
Southern shot a conference low of 38.2% from the field (21-55), 20.0% from behind the arc (2-10) and shot 56.0% from the free throw line (14-25) while AA&M was 41.1% from the floor and 34.6% from behind the three point line. SU bench outscored the Bulldogs 21-4
Garrett Hicks led A&AM with 27 points, Jalen Johnson finished with 19 for the Bulldogs.

The Jaguars will return to action on Monday, Jan. 25 when they travel to Alabama State for a 7:30 pm tip-off in Montgomery.
