BATON ROUGE, LA -- The Southern men's basketball team plays in the F.G. Clark Activity Center for the first time in 312 days when they host University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the Jaguars Southwestern Athletic Conference home debut Saturday afternoon at 4:30pm.
Southern (1-4, 1-0) was led by redshirt freshman
Terrell Williams Jr. with a career/season-high 18 points. He was 6-of-9 (66.7%) from the field, 3-of-3 (100%) on 3-pointers and was 3-of-5 (60%) from the free throw line. Graduate transfer
Harrison Henderson had his first career double-double for the Jags finishing with 11 points and 13 rebounds in the 61-55 win over the Tigers. SU is led by sophomore
Damiree Burns (6-7, 210), junior
Jayden Saddler (6-1, 175) in scoring, with both of them averaging 11.0 points per game. Henderson leads the Jaguars in rebounds with (25) and Saddler leads in assist with (13).
Ahsante Shivers leads SU is steals (7), field goal attempts (48) and three point field goal attempts (23).
UAPB (3-8, 2-0) is coming off a home win on Saturday night vs Alabama State, 91-82 for there second straight SWAC win. The Golden Lions were led by SWAC Player of the Week redshirt junior Shaun Doss Jr. (6-5, 185) who finished with 31 points and 10 rebounds, junior Joshuwan Johnson (5-9, 160) finished with 25 points and nine assist. Senior Dequan Morris (6-4, 180) added 13 points and junior Jalen Lynn (6-1, 170) finished with 10 points. Doss Jr. is averaging 27.0 points per game and 13.0 rebounds in conference play. UAPB shot 32-for-54 (59 percent) from the field for the game and 7-for-15 (46 percent) from 3 point range against the Hornets. Mondays game vs Alabama A&M was postponed due to Covid-19 protocols within the Bulldogs program. for the Tigers.
The Jaguars and Lions met twice during the 2019-20 season with Southern winning both contest.
