BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Shaun Doss Jr. its SWAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week and Southern's
Terrell Williams Jr. its SWAC Men's Basketball Impact Player of the Week for their outstanding performances during games played Jan. 9-11.
Doss (Marion, Ark.) recorded his third straight double-double with a career-high 31 points and 10 rebounds with three assists, two steals, and two blocks in the Golden Lions' win over Alabama State as UAPB improved to 2-0 in SWAC play. Doss shot 12-of-17 from the field, including 2-of-3 from three-point range, and was five-of-seven at the free-throw line.
Williams Jr. (Arlington, Texas) had played limited reserve minutes all season tallying his most minutes prior to GSU game at UAB on 12/16, where he totaled 12 mins and scored his only five points of the 2020-21 campaign. Due to COVID-19 protocols he got his first career start at Grambling State as Southern was without four starters and its top three leading scorers. He went on to lead SU in scoring finishing with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, 3-of-3 from 3-point range and 3-of-5 from free throw line. He also grabbed six rebounds in the victory over the Tigers 61-55.
Other Notable Performances:
- Alcorn State's Troymain Crosby reached the 1,000-point milestone during his career at Alcorn State when he scored 18 points at Grambling State on Tuesday. Overall for the game, he added five rebounds and a steal, while shooting 4-8 from the field and a perfect 10-10 from the foul line.
- Alabama State's Kenny Strawbridge recorded a pair of double-doubles on the road including one that helped Alabama State defeat Mississippi Valley State. The sophomore averaged 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game on the road this week, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against UAPB and adding another 11 points and 11 rebounds against MVSU.
- Texas Southern's Galen Alexander led TSU in both points and rebounds (15/9) on Monday finishing one rebound shy of a double-double.
- Mississippi Valley State's Caleb Hunter contributed 22 points and seven rebounds against Alabama State on Monday.
