Southern Advances to SWAC Tournament Semifinals Game by eliminating Prairie View 59-55

BATON ROUGE, LA -- The Lady Jaguars picked up its third straight win in a slug-fest as they eliminated the Lady Panthers 59-55 in the Quarterfinals of the 2020 Cricket Wireless SWAC Tournament in front of 3,675 fans at the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

Freshman Genovea Johnson led all scorers with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting, 5-of-8 from the charity stripe and six rebounds. Senior Brittany Rose finished the night with 11 points, two assists and three steals in her final game at home. Caitlin Davis, Kayla Watson and Amani Mcwain finished with seven points each. Taneara Moore and Raven White picked up six rebounds each.

Southern fell behind by as many as 13 points in the third quarter but kept fighting to take a one-point lead into the fourth quarter. The Lady Panthers shot 47% (21-45) from the field, 36% (5-14) from behind the arc and 80% (8-10) from the charity stripe. Ths Lady Jaguars played all eleven players with nine landing in the scoring column. SU shot 35% (21-60) from the filed, 27% (3-11) from the behind the arc and 70% (14-20) from the charity stripe.

Southern's swarming defense forced 26 turnovers picking up 29 points.
