Men's Basketball to face Alabama A&M in semifinals

GARLAND, Texas -- No. 1 seed Southern University will face No. 6 seed Alabama A&M in the semifinals of the 2013 SWAC Men's Basketball Tournament Friday, March 15 in the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas.

Tipoff for Friday's semifinal is slated for 8 p.m. and will be live streamed on the SWAC Digital Network on swac.org.

Alabama A&M defeated winless Grambling State 59-50 Wednesday night to advance to the semifinals to meet Southern for the third time this season. In two wins over the Bulldogs, Southern has defeated Alabama A&M by an average margin of victory of 14 points.

In front of a national televised audience on ESPNU, Southern secured a 82-68 road win over Alabama A&M on Jan. 21. Guard Derick Beltran and forward Malcolm Miller combined to score 43 points and the Jaguars shot 48 percent from the field while draining seven three-pointers.

Southern and Alabama A&M nearly replicated its scoring output when the two teams meet in Baton Rouge on Feb. 18. Southern had four players score in double figure in the 81-67 route led by Beltran and Miller, who scored 21 points apiece.

The winner will advance to Saturday's championship game, which will air live on ESPN 2 at 3:30 p.m.
