Julius Ingram scored a clutch layup with 27 seconds left as Southern rallied for a 51-48 victory over Prairie View on Thursday night.
The win is Southern U's first SWAC win since February 27, 2010 when Southern defeated Alcorn State.
The Jaguars (2-12, 1-1 SWAC) trailed for the first 14 minutes of the second half before Brandon White tied it 43-43 on a 3-pointer with 5:30 to go. Two minutes later,
White missed a layup, but Frederick Coleman tipped it in to give Southern the lead for good, 47-45 with 3:24 left.
Ingram, who had 11 points, gave the Jaguars the biggest lead of the final 3 minutes. His layup made it 50-46 with 27 seconds left.
Beloved Rogers hit a jumper with 18 seconds left for Prairie View (4-11, 1-1) to make it 50-48, but Ingram made another free throw and the Panthers missed their last bid to tie. Michael Griffin could not hit a 3-pointer with 6 seconds left.
Cortney Bell and Brandon Webb each scored 10 for Prairie View.
Julius Ingram scored a team high 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds, and Brandon White added seven points and five rebounds, while Jameel Grace added seven points and five assists. Blake Sanford and Frederick Coleman each added six points and seven rebounds, while Quinton Doggett chipped in six points and four rebounds.
