BULLDOGS STYMIE SOUTHERN JAGUARS

Sept. 27, 2010

Final Stats

Sept. 27, 2010

For the second straight game, the Southern offense was anemic and the defense gave up give plays, as Alabama A&M's Deaunte Mason threw four touchdowns and led the Bulldogs to 34 unanswered points to beat Southern University 34-14 on Saturday night in Huntsville, AL.

Southern took the lead early on Gary Hollimon's 62-yard TD run on the first play from scrimmage for the Jaguars, but the offense bogged down the rest of the way.

After Chance Wilson's 27-yard field goal, Mason threw the first of his scoring passes to give the Bulldogs the lead for good. Mason connected with Rashad Johnson for a 5-yard touchdown with 2:03 left in the first half. Mason finished with 294 yards of total offense, including 221 yards on 17-for-29 passing.

The Jaguars (1-2, 0-1 SWAC), who had just 218 yards of offense, struggled to maintain the ball, giving up 193 yards on 11 penalties and having almost 19 minutes less of possession time.

Offensively, Southern U. was led by Gary Hollimon's 56 rushing yards and two touchdowns, with a long of 62 yards.  Jeremiah McGinty finished with 153 passing yards, going 14 of 30 with one interception.  Curry Allen led the SU receivers with five catches for 65 yards.  Hollimon added four grabs for 26 yards.

Defensively, Andre' Coleman and Demetric Rogers each had nine tackles, with Rogers also recovering one fumble.  Freshman, John White had seven tackles in his first extensive play, while Anthony Wells added six tackles and a forced fumble.

Punter Joshua Duran punted four time for an average of 45.5 yards per punt.

Southern will return to action this Saturday night as they host the Golden Lions of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.  Gametime is set for 6:00pm in AW Mumford Stadium.
