Donald Qualls scored a game-high 19 points for Grambling, and kept Southern winless on the road this season by handing the Jaguars a 65-59 loss last night in Grambling, LA.
The defeat drops the Jaguars (4-18, 2-8 SWAC) into sole possession of ninth place in the league. Only the top eight teams receive a berth to the SWAC tournament.
Grambling State (5-13, 3-7 SWAC), moved into eighth place with the win. Southern is now one game behind Grambling State.
It also was Southern ninth consecutive loss at Grambling.

The Jaguars face first-place Jackson State on Monday in Jackson, will likely need an upset or two in the back half of the SWAC schedule to reach the postseason.
"It hurts," head coach Rob Spivery said. "This was a good chance for us to pick one up on the road. Because we are running out of opponents, we've got to find a way to win one on the road somewhere."
