SOUTHERN JAGUARS MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO GOLDEN LIONS, 62-61

March 13, 2009

Final Stats

Beating a team three times in one season can be difficult - very difficult, as the Southern Jaguars men's basketball team found out last night, as the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions narrowly edged out the Jags, 62-61 in quarterfinal action last night in the 2009 SWAC Basketball Tournament at Fair Park Arena in Birmingham, AL.

Southern's Douglas Scott missed a 3-pointer that rimmed out in the final seconds, and UAPB's Gavin Montgomery grabbed the rebounds, and hit one of two free throws, ultimately sealing a 62-61 victory for Pine Bluff.

Chris Davis sank a 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds left, pulling SU to within one point. But UAPB ran out the clock for the win.

Southern had swept the season series versus UAPB in a pair of tight games during the regular season.

The teams tied each other four times and traded the lead 10 times. SU outscored UAPB 26-24 in the paint, but the Golden Lions bench outscored the Jags', 29-18.

Douglas Scott led the Southern Jaguars with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Chris Davis added 10 points and seven rebounds, while Geri Guillory also added 10 points.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Gavin Montgomery scored a game-high 14 points, while Tavaris Washington added 11.
