JAGS MAUL GRAMBLING TIGERS IN BAYOU BASKETBALL BATTLE

Chris Davis scored 15 points, pulled won six rebounds and handed out seven assists, to lead the Southern Jaguars to a 68-57 win over Grambling State on Saturday night.

Davis led three scorers in double-figure points for the Jaguars (5-17, 5-5 SWAC). Douglas Scott added 14 points, and Barry Honore' chipped in with 12 and they each pulled down six rebounds.

The Jaguars finished the first half with a 10-0 run, and Steffon Wiley 's layup at the buzzer gave Southern a 38-29 halftime lead.

The Grambling State Tigers (6-15, 4-6 SWAC) got within three points when Jordan Lemons' layup cut the score to 40-37 with 14:30 remaining. But the Jaguars responded with a 9-2 run to push their lead to 10 with 12 minutes left. Grambling State didn't get any closer than eight points the rest of the game, and eventually trailed by as much as 17.

Lemons and Donald Qualls paced the Tigers with 12 points apiece.

Southern faces the Jackson State Tigers tonight at 7:30 pm in the FG Clark Activity Center. The Jackson State Tigers beat the Alcorn State Braves 81-65 to improve to a 9-13 overall record and an 8-2 SWAC mark.
