Final Stats
Bryant Lee threw four touchdowns and ran for another, propelling Southern University to a 34-24 win over Alabama State on Saturday.
Lee was 29-for-39 with 384 yards and an interception for the Jaguars (6-3, 3-2 SWAC). He also rushed for 44 yards. Lee surpassed Eric Randall's All-Time Passing Yards mark (7,286) in the first quarter, with a 22 yard slant to Juamorris Stewart. Lee now has 7,654 yards and 66 touchdown passes in his career at Southern.
Alabama State jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead on an Andrew Lyons field goal, and followed that up with a quick interception of SU's Bryant Lee, and three plays later scored on a Chris Mitchell 4 yard run to give Alabama State a 10-0 advantage.
The Jags would come back with a 12 play, 78 yard drive that ended with Lee hitting tight end Warren Matthews from 18 yards out to move the Jags to within three.
Trailing 10-7 after the first quarter, Lee connected with Juamorris Stewart on a 51-yard score for a 14-10 lead. He then threw a 5-yard TD pass to Warren Matthews to put Southern up 20-13 at halftime.
In the third, Lee's 12-yard touchdown run and 33-yard TD pass to Gary Hollimon put the Jaguars ahead 34-16.
Andrew Lyons kicked field goals of 28 and 21 yards for Alabama State.
Chris Mitchell was 18-for-32 with 219 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions for the Hornets (4-6, 1-6).
Offensively for SU, Lee led the SU rushing with 44 yards, while Brian Threat rushed 18 times for 36 yards. Juamorris Stewart caught seven balls for 131 yards and a score, while Curry Allen had seven cacthes for 90 yards, Gary Hollimon five catches for 80 yards and a score, and Warren Matthews had three cacthes for 21 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively for SU, the Jags were led by Justin Fletcher, who made a team and game-high 15 tackles (8 solo, 7 assists) to go along with one sack and 2.5 tackles for loss yards. Timothy Berry (4 solo, 2 assists) and Andre' Coleman (1 solo, 5 assists) who each had six tackles. Safety Jason House picked off his NCAA Leading 8th interception of the season.
The Jags are off until the State Farm Bayou Classic on Saturday, November 28th .
