SOUTHERN JAGUARS FALTER DOWN THE STRETCH DROP A CRUCIAL 60-57 DECDISION TO ALABAMA A&M

Alabama A&M's Trant Simpson scored 15 points to propel the Bulldogs to a 60-57 win over Southern University on Monday night.

Trailing by two points with less than two minutes remaining in the second half, AAMU's Simpson hit a jumper to tie the game at 57 with 1:35 remaining.

But Southern turned the ball over, and John Smith tipped in Simpson's 3-point miss to put the Bulldogs up 59-57. The Jaguars turned the ball over again, and Simpson made one of two free-throw attempts for the final margin.

The Bulldogs (5-10, 3-4 Southwestern Athletic Conference) shot 43.6 percent from the field (24-for-55).

Southern (3-17, 3-5) had 20 turnovers in the game. In the final 1:30, the Jaguars turned the ball over three times.

The SU Jags were led by Chris Davis' 16 points, while Barry Honore' continued his improved play, scoring 11 points and pulling down a game and season-high 12 rebounds.

Southern shot 39 percent from the field (23-for-59).

Southern will travel to Alcorn State on Saturday night for a 7:30 pm tipoff on the "Reservation".
