Nicholls State's Anatoly Bose scored 16 points to lead NSU to a 64-58 victory over Southern University on Saturday in the FG Clark Activity Center.
Chris Davis and Geri Guillory led Southern with 12 points each. Douglas Scott added 11 rebounds for the Jaguars. Fred Hunter added 14 points for the Colonels (4-3), who held off the Jaguars (0-7) in the final four minutes.
Nicholls State led 57-48 with 4:11 left before Southern's Chris Davis hit consecutive baskets and Geri Guillory made a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 57-55 with 2:40 remaining.
The Colonels, however, went on a 6-0 run to increase their advantage to 63-55 with 21 seconds left.
Following the first media break of the second half, the Colonels found their spark, using a 13-0 run that included back-to-back treys from Bose to take a 48-38 advantage and swing momentum in their direction.
The Colonels forced six Jaguar turnovers through the five-minute span, part of 27 total points off of 20 Southern turnovers in the game.
Back-to-back threes from Nicholls State put the Colonels up 28-25 for a late lead in the first half, but Southern scored four straight in the last minute of the opening half, taking a 29-28 lead to the locker room at halftime.
Southern will face the Bluejays of Creighton University tonight in Omaha, Nebraska. Tipoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
