Final Stats
Grambling State outscored Southern 15-10 in overtime to
hold on for a critical 80-75 win over the Jaguars in Memorial Gym Saturday night
on the GSU campus.
Southern was led in scoring by Chris Alexander who poured in
20 points, while Alvin Mott scored a season-high 16 points. Ralph Hishaw came
off of the SU bench to add 12 points and Jerrid Campbell chipped in 10. Peter
Cipriano pulled down 12 rebounds.
SU had no answer for Grambling State's Brion Rush, who
scored a career-high 53 points, including two 3-pointers to open the overtime
period. Rush shot 14 of 40 from the floor, and 20 of 26 from the free thrown
line. He also pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds.
The loss moves Southern (9-111, 8-2 SWAC) into a two-way tie
with Grambling (8-2 SWAC), with a red-hot Jackson State (7-3 SWAC) waiting in
the wings, after a 89-67 win over Alcorn State Saturday night.
Southern will travel to Jackson State on Monday night at 7:30
