TURNOVERS ONCE AGAIN HAMPER JAGUARS IN LOSS TO ALCORN STATE

Nov. 1, 2006

Final Stats

Just like the weather on the day, the Southern Jags were caught in the midst of a storm that seemed like it would never end.
The Alcorn State Braves took advantage of six SU turnovers (four interceptions and two fumbles) to take a 26-10 victory at Jack Spinks Stadium in front of 21,000 soaking wet fans.

Jaguar QB J.C. Lewis, connected with Brian Washington for a 16-yd TD pass in the first quarter to put the Jags out in front. But Alcorn State kicker Johnathan Williams put the Braves on the board, with a 21-yard field goal to bring to score to 7-3. Kicker Breck Ackley hit a 36-yard field goal to pull Southern ahead 10-3 with a 1:02 left in the 2nd quarter.

But as the skies turned dark and the torrential downpour started, the rain miffed the Jags but it was all Alcorn after that, with the Braves scoring 23 unanswered points against the Jaguars, including a 65-yard interception return for TD by junior DB Deshaun Lewis.

Alcorn State had 57 plays for 228 yards (142 R, 86 P), and Southern had 60 plays for 173 yards (53 R, 120 P).
Kendall Addison rushed for 93 yards on 20 carries to lead the offense, while Glenn Bell had 10 tackles, and Jarmaul George snagged his fifth interception of the season to lead the Southern defense.
