Final Stats
Baton Rouge, LA -- The Southern University Lady Jaguars volleyball team defeated the Golden Lionettes of Arkansas-Pine Bluff 3-0. The win secures the third place spot in the Western Division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
"The young ladies played well tonight, they had winning on their mind," said head coach Nathaniel Denu. "They knew how important this game was for us.
Southern (9-11, 3-5 SWAC) finished the 2005 season with their best record in three years. The third place spot is also a best for SU since the 2003 season.
Tonight's game was also senior night as the lone senior, Krystal Young, was recognized before the game.
Freshman Ena Payne led the Lady Jaguars as she recorded 13 kills and two digs. Sophomore TaRhonda White put up a double double as she finished the game with 10 kills and 10 digs. Young completed her last regular season game with eight kills, two assists, three service aces, and eight digs.
"I am really happy that we won tonight especially since it was my last game at home," said Young. "My babies played really well tonight and I will really miss them. My babies are the freshmen and I treat them like my children."
"Krystal is a player that every one on the team looks up to. She is a leader and a great player," said Denu. "We really will miss her and what she brings to the team."
Southern will now prepare for the SWAC post season volleyball tournament. The tournament will begin on Friday, November 11th and will go through Saturday, November 12th. All games, during the tournament, will be played in Houston, TX at the Texas Southern University Health and Physical Education Arena.
