Baton Rouge, LA -- The Southern University Lady Jaguars volleyball team dropped their second contest versus the Lady Tigers of Jackson State University 3-0.
"We can't do anything when we have injuries hampering the team," said head coach Nathaniel Denu. "One of our players had to come out because of back problems so that left us with seven people available for the game."
Southern (8-10, 2-5 SWAC) was lead offensively by freshman Ena Payne and sophomore TaRhonda White. Payne ended the game with 14 kills while White had nine. Defensively junior Shametia Whitaker finished with 10 digs.
The Lady Jaguars down falls continued as they accounted for 22 attack errors, three set errors, and nine reception errors. The 34 errors accounted for 34 out of 90 points that were scored by Jackson State.
The lost drops the Blue and Gold 8-10 overall on the year as they head into their final two games of the year. SU will travel to Itta Bena, MS where they will face the Mississippi Valley State University Devilettes on Friday, November 4th. They then will welcome the Lady Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in their season finale on Monday, November 7th. In order to not have a third straight losing season coach Denu and the Lady Jaguars will have to win out all their games.
In conference news Krystal Young, was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference volleyball defensive Player of the Week. Young averaged 3.64 kills, 2.82 digs and three total aces on last week. This is Young's second honor as she received the distinction during the first week of competition.
