LADY JAGUARS BREAK LOSING STREAK

Baton Rouge, LA -- The Southern University Lady Jaguars volleyball team broke their three-game skid by defeating Alcorn State University, the last team they defeated before the skid began. The Lady Braves fell victim to the Lady Jaguars 3-1.

Southern (7-6, 1-2 SWAC) dropped the first game 24-30 but recovered and won the next three 33-31, 33-31 and 30-28. The Blue and Gold were lead by TaRhonda White, a native of Baton Rouge, and Krystal Young, a Wallis, Texas native, who each had 16 kills on the evening. Young also recorded 10 digs. Freshman Ena Payne finished the game with 11 kills while junior Shametia Whitaker had 10 kills off of 25 attempts. Freshman captain Lakenya Simpson ended the game with 10 digs, 49 assists and 4 kills.

The Lady Jaguars will not see the friendly confines of Seymour Gymnasium again until November 1st because of the annual Southern Invitational Volleyball Tournament that was canceled due to unavailable hotel space. They next game will have the Lady Jaguars traveling to Pine Bluff, Arkansas to face the Lady Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The game is scheduled for Saturday, October 22nd, at 7:30 p.m. The next home game will be November 1st versus Jackson State University. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
