Southern University

Ricky Jackson enters his second year back at Southern University and serves as the Director of Football Operations, bringing more than a decade of experience in football operations, player personnel and coaching to the Jaguar football program.

Jackson returned to Southern after spending one season at LSU as the Assistant Director of Football Operations. During his time with the Tigers, he gained valuable experience working within a Power Four football program before returning to The Bluff to continue his work with Jaguar Football.

He spent three seasons as the Director of Football Operations and Player Personnel at Southern University, where he helped oversee the Jaguar football program and was part of a team that captured a SWAC Western Division Championship.

Prior to his return to Southern, Jackson spent four seasons (2019-22) at Prairie View A&M University as the Director of Football Operations and Player Personnel. During his time at Prairie View, he played an integral role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the football program. His responsibilities included managing the program's budget, coordinating team travel, organizing summer camps and coaching clinics, and serving as the liaison for professional scouts.

Jackson began his career in football administration at Grambling State University, where he served as the Director of Football Operations and a graduate assistant coach under legendary head coach Doug Williams. As a graduate assistant, he worked with the offensive line while assisting with opponent scouting, recruiting evaluations, film breakdown and the daily coordination between coaches and student-athletes.

Before beginning his career in football administration, Jackson was a standout student-athlete at Grambling State. A two-year starter on the offensive line, he played under head coach Rod Broadway and was named a team captain as a senior. In his first season with the Tigers in 2008, Grambling captured the Black College National Championship and the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship.

Jackson helped pave the way for running back Frank Warren, who finished his Grambling career as the school's all-time leading rusher with 3,910 yards.

A native of Los Angeles, California, Jackson attended Serra High School before playing two seasons at West Los Angeles Junior College. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in sports management from Grambling State University and a master's degree in sports administration in 2014.

Jackson's experience as a former student-athlete, coach and administrator gives him a unique perspective on the many facets of operating a successful football program. He plays a key role in helping ensure the Jaguar football program is prepared both on and off the field.

Jackson is the proud father of two children, Keilan and Karter.
